Activities

Cahersiveen Community Resource Centre has become the main meeting place for many people in our community and without which may not have the opportunity to meet and socialise. The centre itself has benefited many individuals and groups within the area by offering people a service which is central, accessible, affordable and user-friendly and as a result of which have seen the formation of many new groups supported by the centre such as the Active Retirement Group, Parents and Toddlers Group and S.Pa.R.K. (Single Parents Raising Kids). Cahersiveen Community Resource Centre has impacted on the lives of the people by adding to the social fabric of Cahersiveen and its surrounding areas.

Activities are available for both adults and children and because of our successes over the past number of years our achievement to date is that we have become a recognised venue for the local people in our area by the provision of weekly activities for both children and adults alike.

Activities which the Centre undertakes and will continue to undertake into the future are as follows:

  • Gymnastics
  • Ceilí dance classes for both adults and children
  • Karate
  • Taekwon-do (Riordan's Taekwon-do Schools)
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Kiddies Friday club (Chameleon Club for 8 – 10 year olds)
  • Ceilí music lessons
  • Badminton classes
  • Youth club facilities
  • Pilates classes
  • Salsa dancing
  • Chi-gong meditation classes
  • Active Retirement Group
  • Parent & Toddler Group (Busy Bees)
  • S.Pa.R.K. (Single Parents Raising Kids),
  • the provision of a playschool (Kiddie’s Paradise)
  • the provision of a Youth Activities Co-ordinator (KDYS)
  • the provision of a seasonal tourist office (Cork Kerry Tourism).

As the centre is the one of the main focal points within the town, it is an ideal venue to host activities for the community. Rooms are hired out to local groups for meetings, seminars etc on a daily basis and can include the provision of a catering facility during any particular meeting. The centre has a fully operated reception area five days per week and can also be provided at other times outside of this for groups/meetings upon request.

The main hall is also hired out to groups/individuals as and when events arise within the community ie. sporting activities, musical activities, birthday parties, cinema etc.

A seasonal tourist office is operated by Cork Kerry Tourism out of the centre for approx: 5 months of the year and this generates income through rental of office space during the season. However staff at the centre provides assistance and information to the general public outside of tourist office times.

The centre also hosts ‘Kiddie’s Paradise’ Playschool which is another form of generating income through rental of space and facilities. The centre has a constant flow of ‘traffic’ as parents and their children come and go.
